|Volleyball - Girls (V) ISSL Tournament|
|Date:||September 14, 2019|
After just one week of practice, the Varsity Girls Volleyball team departed at 5:30 AM to Zurich International School (ZIS) for the season-opening ISSL Tournament. With seven teams competing in the tournament, the Tigers were placed in a pool with four teams. In their first game against ISZL, the girls started off nervous. As the game progressed and with excellent tips by middle blocker Ella Hauptman '20, the girls got into a rhythm and won their first set of the season. Although they lost the second set, the girls came back strong in the third set and won the match. The Tigers maintained momentum against Aiglon College in the following game, securing their spot in the semifinals. In the final game of pool play, the girls played the tournament favorites and hosts, ZIS. Although the girls fought hard with well-placed tips from Carolina Zanon di Valgiurata '21, they lost their first match of the season and entered the semifinals as the second seed from their pool.
In the semifinals, the Tigers faced off against the top seed from the other pool, ICS. They played their best game of the season against ICS in the first set thanks to excellent communication between all the players. ICS came back with force in the following two sets, however, sending TASIS to the 3rd-place game against ISB. The girls lost a tough first set but came back in the second and third sets thanks to consistently strong serves from co-captain Giulia de Cristofaro '20 and Elle Kirby '21 to take third place in the first tournament of the year. The Tigers were the only team that had to play five consecutive games, and the girls showed immense progress throughout the day. The coaching staff looks forward to seeing what this team can bring to the table after more practice.
