SGIS Soccer Cat A Varsity Boys Final results

Recap submitted by Coach Alex Zanecchia

The TASIS boys travelled to Geneva for the 2019 SGIS tournament. After a full travel day and team dinner, they would go up against rivals ISZL (International School Zug Luzern) at Bout-Du-Monde Stadium. Coming off of a week at academic travel, the boys play hard but despite their best efforts had difficulty finding a footing in the defence and took a number of early goals. For the second match the boys found their stride against ILL (International Institute De Lancy), and Nicolas Brinkman '20 at left back, cleaned up a loose ball and surprised many with a driven goal from outside. TASIS took the win 1-0. The boys finished the day with a match up against ISL (International School of Lausanne) with a 0-3 loss. TASIS played tough, but struggled to not retain possession up against with the skilled ISL pressure.

With another night's rest and optimistic for a potential 3rd place finish, TASIS started day two against LGB (International School of Geneva). The boys put forward a notable performance against the squad that would go on to take the championship trophy. The TASIS midfield and defence showed more confidence with captain Patryk Herok '20 at the back. For the fifth game of the tournament TASIS matched Leysin American School. It was an important game as the tournament did not have a clear leader going into the last group stage match. TASIS had another good effort, with some scoring opportunities, especially from Santiago Munoz Diaz '22 and Ianis Paval '20 in the midfield. Mateo Montenegro Nieme '21 had a strong tournament performance as he settled into new positions. To finish out the tournament TASIS would take another win with a great shot by Ianis Paval '20 to take the win.

To conclude the season, the TASIS boys look forward to their ESC Tournament in Lisbon Portugal on the 14th of November.
