International Week Showcase

Dear ES Parents,

During International Week, we will hold an ES International Showcase on Thursday, February 15, in the Palmer Center from 8:30–9:45. Students have the opportunity to perform a song, instrumental solo, dance, poem, or short skit that represents their country. They may perform on their own or with friends representing the same country.

The students are aware of this opportunity and many have expressed interest. Once your child has decided on a specific performance, please submit this Google Form by February 2. Any links, mp3s, and videos you would like in your performance must be included in this Google Form submission. Therefore, please make sure you fill out the form after you have determined the details of the performance.

The maximum performance time is two minutes. Traditional costumes from the country of origin are encouraged for performers but not required. Performers should come to school that day in their performance costume and bring the TASIS uniform to change into. TASIS is not able to cover the cost for any instructors required for rehearsal or performance, and no live accompaniment will be provided.

Be sure to encourage your child to participate and to help him or her prepare for the performance!

We are looking forward to a fantastic International Showcase! Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Best,

Mr. Matthew Frazier-Smith
Ms. Melody Tibbits Zanecchia
Ms. Eleonora Pinton

A Letter from the ES Librarian

Dear Parents,

I am very pleased to announce that the Elementary School will be hosting two author visits this spring.

Bruce Hale, author of more than 40 seriously funny books for young readers, will be visiting during our annual Book Week celebration. He will be here on Tuesday, April 10, and will use his blend of character education, stand-up comedy, and pro-literacy message to engage our students. From picture books to fiction, his motto is, “If it’s not fun, why read it?” His books include something for every taste, from fractured fairy tales to suspenseful mysteries, graphic novels, and more. To learn more about Bruce, please visit his website.

On Monday, May 14, Rosemary Wells, author and illustrator of some of the most well-known characters in children’s literature, will present her Young Artists’ Workshop to our students. Her workshops encourage students to try new things, to compile many ingredients in their art, to focus quietly, and to revise and perfect their own work. Her overall message is that each student can be an artist in his or her own right, each in his or her own way. Rosemary’s visit coincides with the annual Spring Arts Festival week. To learn more about Rosemary, please see her website.

Both Bruce and Rosemary will present to each grade level and will be available afterward to sign their books.  As such, I will be sending home a pre-order form next week so that you may order their books beforehand.  Please be on the lookout for this letter.

All the best,

Alyssa Uecker
Elementary Librarian
