The TASIS community enjoyed a busy few weeks of holiday celebrations prior to breaking for the Christmas Holiday on December 16. (Classes resume on January 9.) Below is a quick recap of the many festive events that took place during December, including the All-School Christmas Service and the Elementary School Christmas Concert.

Visit from Santa

The TASIS Parent Association (TPA) kicked off the holiday season by bringing the TASIS community a Family Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on the afternoon of December 1. Elementary School students surprised Headmaster Lyle Rigg with a lovely hand-crafted birthday card, and students and faculty members treated the audience to several Christmas carols.

The TPA concluded a busy week by hosting its annual Holiday Market on campus the following afternoon. Guests enjoyed great food, Christmas gift stands, and a “Grab Bag Lottery” for children. Proceeds generated from a bake sale, a book drive, and holiday cards sold by the Pre-Kindergarten class were donated to the TASIS Service Learning Program.

This year’s All-School Christmas Service was celebrated at the church of San Nicolao della Flüe on the afternoon of December 4. Readings were delivered by Tia Pederson (Elementary School Faculty), Nicolò Piconi ’21, Helena Abrantes Pini ’25, Asia Roveda ’18, Lyle Rigg (Headmaster), and Lynn Fleming Aeschliman (Chairman of the Board), and the outstanding musical program was directed by Samantha Forrest (High School Music Director) in collaboration with Tamara Schumacher (Faculty Choir Director), Sarah Grove Locke (Middle School Choir Director), and Melody Tibbits Zanecchia (Elementary School Choir Director). Dancing and games followed a formal dinner at the Middle School Christmas Celebration on the evening of December 3, and on December 8 the Middle School Theater Club presented its original one-act play, “The Show Must Go On.” Photos from the play, which was written and directed by Julie and Matthew Frazier-Smith, can be found here.

Merry & Bright Open Mic Night

The High School held a Merry & Bright Open Mic Night in the snack bar on the evening of December 10. See more photos from the event, which included hot chocolate, cookies, music, and merriment.

In the weeks leading up to the Christmas Holiday, Elementary School students built their own gingerbread houses, received a surprise visit from Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, and shared their original dramatic performances.

The annual Elementary School Christmas Concert was held in the Palestra on the morning of December 16. Music Director Melody Tibbits Zanecchia and the Elementary School Christmas Band—Gloria De Piante Vicin, Alessio Di Tonno, and Stefano Marinucci—guided students through nine holiday classics.
