HS GSP Human Rights Week for Nepal: Tibetan Refugees
Nepal: Tibetan Refugees, an Opsahl Global Service Program group, will host an education/fundraising week on campus Monday, December 10, through Friday, December 14. The spirited video above was created by Alex Secilmis ’19 to help spread a little Christmas cheer and raise awareness among the student body for the full slate of events ahead. (The student-directed Service Learning Board will also be leading a number of directives in recognition of Human Rights Week.)
All proceeds raised throughout the week will be donated to a group of Tibetan refugees in Tserok that the Nepal group has partnered with since 2015. This year's service project will be reinforcing and building a new section of a water retention wall to protect their village from flooding when the nearby river rises. New Global Service Program Director Danny Schiff worked with outgoing director Zach Mulert to develop the two-week trip to Nepal after traveling to the Everest region on his own six years ago.
Events planned by the Nepal group for next week:
Monday: Trivia and pizza from 17:30–18:45 in M1 and M2
Tuesday: Speed dodgeball games for Middle School students from 12:45–13:10 in the Palestra
Wednesday: Hike followed by Nepal Tea from 16:00–17:15 (meet at the Gazebo at 16:00)
Thursday: Assembly video and cookie giveaway in the Palestra from 10:10–10:35
Friday: No-Uniform Day (with the purchase of a bracelet)
Note: TBD indicates that the details of an event are "to be determined."
